How is the Pace-of-Play at your Golf Club? Slow?

S-L-O-W?

Often times, we golfers are "slow" without realizing it. We think we’re “good”, when actually, we’re “out-of-position”. But how to know where, on the course, we should be in relation to where we actually are? That’s where this app, ‘SLO ranger’, can lead the way.

‘SLO ranger’ moves around the golf course at a pace customized for your course. That pace is established by your Club in the app and easily disseminated to players via a Quick Response (QR) Code created and read by the app, by an Email attachment of by an AirDrop attachment.

Each hole is divided into segments. Par 4 holes, for example, have segments:
• Hitting from Tee
• Going to Tee Shot
• Hitting to Green
• Going to Green
• Putting on Green
• Going to next Tee

Tap ‘START’ on the first tee and ‘Round done’ when you walk off the eighteenth green. In between, take an occasional look at the app to see where you should be on the course in relation to where you actually are. At any Tee you can see your actual minutes ahead of (or behind) the established Pace-of-Play.

Depicted in the five screenshots above is our round of golf at the mythical Windy Ridge Golf Resort in historic Gilroy, California:
1. 9:00am – "Play Away". Tap START.
2. 10:43am – Were on 8th Green. On-Pace.
3. 11:56am – Arriving at 13th Tee. Behind.
4. 1:12pm – ‘Play done’. On-Pace.
5. 1:30pm – Reports: Pace-of-Play metrics.

‘SLO ranger’ needs a customized Pace-of-Play describing your course for it to work for you as depicted above. If one exists, great! But what if it doesn’t? Well, in that case, get together with the golf professional and/or the golf committee at your Club. Get them involved. OR, you could take the initiative and just do it yourself. Calculate a recommended time to play your course. ‘SLO ranger’ will formulate and AirPrint the resulting QR Code. It can be posted around the club - locker rooms, golf shop, bulletin boards, newsletters, scorecards, etc. Or you can Share it via an Email or AirDrop attachment. Promote its use within your group of players. It will only take a few minutes of your time, and your fellow golfers will thank you.
